Shaking felt through the floor or steering wheel can be caused by drivetrain issues such as an imbalanced or bent driveshaft, worn CV joints or U-joints, failing engine or transmission mounts, or differential wear, which can transmit vibrations through the vehicle’s structure when power is applied.
Clunking or vibration when accelerating
Vibration when accelerating can result from excessive drivetrain play caused by worn universal joints (U-joints), deteriorated engine or transmission mounts, backlash in the differential gears, worn CV joints, or looseness in the driveshaft or axle components, which allows parts to shift or take up slack when torque is applied.
Unusual noises when shifting or changing speed
Unusual noises during gear changes can be caused by worn synchronizers, excessive drivetrain backlash, deteriorated transmission mounts, worn universal joints (U-joints), or internal transmission gear wear, which can create grinding, clunking, or whining sounds as torque is transferred between components.
Difficulty turning or uneven handling
Causes of this are worn CV joints, uneven torque transfer from a failing differential, excessive play in the driveshaft or axle shafts, or deteriorated engine or transmission mounts, which can introduce vibration or inconsistent power delivery that affects steering stability during acceleration or load changes.
